FAQ and HELP
We're new at this, so
we're just not too sure which questions will be most common! We're
going to try to anticipate a few obvious ones, and as others arise, we'll
add them to this page.
I signed up - now
what?
When you sign up, you'll
be given a small snippet of code to paste into your webpage. Be sure
to paste the code into the html portion of your page. All website
editing programs are different, so read the instructions for your
particular program if you're not sure how to access the html section.
You many place the code anywhere on your site, although the further down
the page you put it, the less accurate it becomes.
I pasted my code into
the html of my website but all I'm seeing is a jumble of text on my site!
It's very easy for text
to be corrupted when it's being copied from a browser or email and being
pasted into another source. To be safe, try to paste the code into a
text editor first, like Notepad, then copy it from there and paste it into
the html. Some older versions of FrontPage are notorious for adding
extra characters to text which has been copied and pasted from a browser.
I've forgotten my
password!
Go to the Login page and
click the "Password Reminder" link. A new password will be sent to
you via email.
My account seems to
have been deleted!
There are a few reasons
your account could be deleted. If you sign up but don't send any
hits in a 30 day period, the software assumes your account is dormant and
automatically prunes it from the system. Also, we don't allow our
counters to be used on TopLists, TGPs, or sites which promote violence or
illegal activities, so if you were caught doing that, your account
probably was removed from the system (check the Terms page for more
information).
I don't want my own
visits to my site to count in my stats - what can I do?
If you login to your
Pride Stats account, you'll see an option to exclude an IP address.
You can enter your own IP address here to exclude your own visits,
assuming you have a static IP address.
I'm switching from
another counter service and don't want to start my hit counter at zero.
Login to your account,
and you'll be given the option to set your counter at whichever starting
number you'd like.
I just changed my
website and want to reset my hit counter to zero.
Just as above: login to
your account, and you'll be given the option to set your counter at
whichever starting number you'd like. You'll also be able to
complete wipe out old stats on the account and to start fresh.
I want to see purple
elephants dancing the Macarena every time I check my stats.
It's good to dream, isn't
it? If you have an idea for a feature to enhance the Pride Stats
service, please write and let us know. This service is a
work-in-progress and we're always looking to improve it.
Do you have any tips
or ideas about how I can get more traffic to my website?
That's not really our
department. However, checkout the
StatsBuddy
program for information on search engine placement, generating ad
revenues, etc. Some portions of the service are free, and others
have a free trial.
